The District of Il Colle in Atina

Outside of the old town, and a little downhill along the Via Sferracavalli below Atina’s old Cemetery, is the district known as Il Colle. In ancient times a Roman settlement on this site. In later years the hill took on the name of Santa Croce, from the large cross that once stood there. In the early 1700’s a little octagonal Church of Santa Croce was built there and can still be seen today. There are some interesting little alleyways to explore.
