The District of Il Colle in Atina
Outside of the old town, and a little downhill and below Atina’s cemetery, is the district known as Il Colle. In ancient times a Roman settlement was built on a the small hill of Santa Croce (430 m). In later years the hill took on the name of Santa Croce, from the large cross that once stood there. In the early 1700’s a little octagonal church, of the same name, was built there and can still be seen today.

Close-by along the Via Sferracavalli is the church of San Pietro, an ancient tract of Roman road and the remains of some ancient polygonal walls.
