San Biagio Saracinisco in the Val di Comino

The small village of San Biagio Saracinisco is perched on a ridge at an altitude of 866 metres above sea level on the far eastern side of the Val di Comino. It belongs to the Comunità Montagna della Valle di Comino. Its territory covers 21 square kilometers and includes the hamlets of: Cioppo, Fontana Cicchetta, Pietrepente, Pratola, Radicosa, Raimella, Uotto, Venezia. la località Pratola near Cardito. The current population is 365 and the inhabitants are known as Sanbiagesi.

Church of  San Biagio di Sebaste

The Chiesa di San Biagio was founded in the 12th century and San Biagio is the patron saint of the town. He was the Bishop of Sebaste and was martyred between 314 and 315 AD during the persecution of the Christians by the Roman Emperor Diocletian. San Biagio is the patron saint of throat illnesses, animals, wool combers. and wool trading.  His feast day is celebrated each year on the 3rd February.
